Syria’s more than a decade-long war has created many negative phenomena, most notably the emigration of young people, who are the main operators of the economy and society. Migration has intensified the political and economic instability of the entire region, and north-eastern Syria in particular.
To him, the Organization for Development and Cooperation (OECD) is working with analytical and international partners to improve and coordinate response frameworks to protect the region from the risks of sustainable migration.
For example, the governorate of Hasakah/Al Jazeera has experienced numerous migration waves. According to the organization’s Population Assessment Report, based on a comparative statistical analysis, researchers concluded that there are up to 1,967,793 people in Hasakah, of whom 453,576 are in the young age group, with up to 34,240 young people from the province/territory abandoned only in 2021.
